Valeria Vidal Plate is a Peruvian filmmaker based in New York City. She focuses on writing, directing, AND EDITING - while having an interest in production. She gravitates towards emotionally charged, grounded, and interpersonal stories that feel lived-in, ones that help open a portal to the world around us. Her work centers on uplifting the voices of her community, IMMIGRATION, and beyond, while keeping each story personal and sincere to the characters involved.
Valeria is a film school graduate at Pratt Institute and before her time at Pratt, Valeria pursued a degree in communications and journalism in the Pontifical Catholic University in Lima, Peru.
She worked as a photography assistant to Erika Larsen on projects for National Geographic and Time Magazine, where she participated in high-level editorial productions and learned the process of long-form visual storytelling. She also served as a creative assistant on Larsen’s book Materia Prima, gaining experience in photographic narrative construction and publication. During this time, she also worked as a production assistant for the National Geographic Society documentary “A vision for Storytelling”, where she travelled to Quinhagak, Alaska with the whole team. SHE ALSO WORKED IN MARKETING AGENCIES IN PERU, WHERE SHE WAS IN CHARGE OF FILMING, EDITING, AND SOUND MIXING COMMERCIALS FOR VARIOUS PERUVIAN AND INTERNATIONAL COMPANIES.
In New York, Valeria expanded her OWN FILMMAKING VOICE THROUGH WRITING AND DIRECTING HER OWN FILMS - THIS IS ALSO WHERE SHE FOUND A PROFOUND LOVE FOR EDITING AND COLOR GRADING AS WELL. SHE WANTS TO CONTINUE WRITING, DIRECTING, AND EDITING FILMS - WHILE ALSO HELPING HER PEERS CREATE ART THROUGH PRODUCTION.
